As you probably know, here at Sandy’s Skin Solutions we use Ultraderm Skin Care products, an Australian skin care company based on the Gold Coast.
I believe in this company, they are a results driven company, and show real passion and care. There are definitely benefits in using an Australian skin care range – their products are designed with Aussie women, our climate and lifestyle in mind for starters.
Ultraderm founder Pauline Valle began her journey to the creation of a skin care company after having her first child, when she created a coloured bubble bath range. Pauline had been involved in the beauty industry for many years, knew what worked, and wanted to provide salon owners with what they were asking for in terms of product but also support from a skin care supplier. Ultraderm was started in 2009, when the opportunity arose to work with a ground-breaking skin care ingredient Malus domestica, or Apple Stem Cells. Two signature skin care products were created – Skin Renew Serum, and Skin Renew Cream. The response was amazing from salon owners and their clientele, and Ultraderm grew from there.
Pauline says the best thing about running Ultraderm is the difference she can make to people’s well-being. “The skin is the largest organ of the body and it reflects what is going on inside. If we can increase skin confidence then we are happy!”
Pauline’s current favourite “desert island” products from her range are Essential Restore Serum, and IntenC Serum. So yes, serums are definitely having a moment. Here at Sandy’s Skin Solution, face serums are also a favourite skin care product, personally and professionally. Serums deliver powerful ingredients directly into the skin. They are made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate deeply and deliver a high concentration of active ingredients. So what’s the lowdown on these little jars of elixir? The most common benefits include hydration, increased nourishment, brightening of the skin, and acne prevention. They also help in strengthening skin cells. While other face creams contain only 5 to 10 per cent of active ingredients, a face serum can contain up to 70 per cent!
Regardless of your skin care regime or skin type, you can incorporate serums into your routine for improved appearance. Not sure how to use them? Simply apply a few drops of the serum after cleansing and toning your skin, and before moisturising. A sunscreen should be applied over the serum in the morning, or an appropriate moisturiser used over the top at night.
Targeting the specific needs of your skin is easy using serums.
Serums rich in anti-oxidants (Vitamin C) can prevent oxidative strain from pollution and UV radiation. They are idea for applying under a sunscreen in the morning.
Serums that firm skin are those rich in peptides which help boost collagen and elastin production and restore firmness to skin.
Brightening and regenerative serums are usually formulated with retinol, which helps cellular renewal and can brighten the skin, helping it to appear more luminous.
Serums that renew skin are rich in essential oils and Omega-3 fatty acids. These work overnight to help the skin repair itself and make sure the skin’s barrier function is working at its best.
Here’s a little more information about these amazing, intense treatments that I believe really work:
Serums are a wonderful tool for targeting specific concerns, like fine lines: Hello youthful skin!
Serums are full of moisturising ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides which help skin retain moisture.
Once a day use will probably cover your needs, however twice a day after cleansing and toning is recommended.
Serums tend to be a little more pricey on the skin care spectrum, but for a reason. They are more concentrated and potent, a little goes a long way.
As they are more potent it’s not always a case of “more is better”. Be careful of piling serums onto your skin.
You can choose a serum for specific skin issues such as clearing blemishes or smoothing wrinkles (see above).
Using a serum regularly can give your skin a firmer, smoother texture and look.
Pores can appear smaller and moisture levels will be increased.
Serums can help overall skin appearance, and the better condition your skin, the less make-up you have to use.
A good, cost effective serum such as those from Ultraderm, can provide all the benefits of expensive formulas.
Serums can be applied in the morning, or in the evening, or both.
